Works: Landscape and Memory

A complex tale of the urban countryside

These paintings come from Laura’s enquiry into how to represent her experience of landscape, which is largely mediated by memory. Working from images downloaded from the Internet, Laura maintains distance as she evokes the landscape of her childhood in the hinterland of suburbia. The paintings appear idyllic; on the surface lies beauty though below lurk dystopian undercurrents and menace.
