Grand houses and abandoned fridges; impositions on the landscape

When we look at a landscape painting, we have to consider the actual view, who painted it and in what historical context. Laura questions these contexts making these paintings of a simplified Palladian house and the view from its windows. The paintings represent the ‘Proprietorial View’ and the ‘Prospect’, two landscape genres which evoke topography and perspectival devices to place the viewer above or outside of the landscape to institute power. The paintings hint at the white cube and domestic dumping.
